Vichy Teint Idéal makeup review

Thanks to the extreme changes in temperatures we’ve had in the past few weeks, my skin has been so dry that I’ve taken to wearing face masks instead of ordinary moisturizer when I have nothing planned for the day and thick night creams under my makeup when I really can’t avoid wearing foundation.

Très chic, I know.

This not-so-good skin month has lead me to rediscover my love and excitement for the Vichy Teint Idéal makeup range that was launched in Canada back in September. The whole range is formulated to care for your skin while also enhancing your natural beauty.

Vichy foundations review

Though Vichy is sold in drugstores, the Teint Idéal range is a step up from typical drugstore makeup. It’s pricey, but every product is infused with great skincare ingredients and suitable for the most sensitive skin. The packaging is not especially exciting, but it feels very grown-up and fits the fuss-free Vichy aesthetic we’ve come to know and love.

The Vichy Teint Idéal range has two options for liquid foundation lovers – a fluid formula and a cream formula. They’re both full of ingredients to help heal the skin, including vitamin E, vitamin C, and Mineralizing Thermal Water, Vichy’s signature ingredient.

The Vichy Teint Idéal Fluid foundation* ($38) is formulated for normal to combination skin and comes in five shades, ranging from Ivory to Bronze. The texture is light, thin and almost watery, and the coverage is somewhere between light and medium. It evens the skin tone beautifully and gives the skin a luminous finish.

As is often the case, there’s definitely room for improvement in the shade selection. Ivory (the lightest shade) is too dark for my ghost-pale winter skin, but it was a great match for my skin last September when I had a bit of a tan. I was really impressed with the coverage and the healthy glow it gave when the Vichy makeup artist first matched me to my shade, so I keep the beautiful glass bottle on my vanity and patiently wait for sunny days and tanned skin so I can start using the Fluid foundation again.

The Vichy Teint Idéal Cream foundation* ($38) is supposed to be great for people who suffer from dry skin as it contain hyaluronic acid to help keep the skin hydrated. It provides a medium coverage and gives the skin a smooth velvet finish. Like the Fluid foundation, it comes in five shades, but the Ivory shade is a little lighter than the Fluid foundation’s lightest shade, and it’s just right for my current skin tone. I tend to go for ‘healthy glow’ foundations, and I find the velvet finish of the Teint Idéal Cream foundation bit too thick and powdery for my taste. It looks amazing from a distance, but I find it looks a little cakey up close.

For those who prefer a powder foundation or who like to set their liquid base, the Vichy Teint Idéal Compact Powder* ($36) is a great versatile option. Though it only comes in three shades, the lightest one is a perfect match for my skin tone. The mineral pigments help even out redness and provide a natural-looking semi-matte finish. It’s a good (if somewhat expensive) setting powder, but I’ve been using it on no makeup days to cover up blotchiness in seconds and get my skin to look as poreless as possible.

There’s a very, very fine line between looking like a bronzed goddess and looking like you rolled around in orange dirt, and I haven’t quite mastered the art of applying bronzing powder. I love my Body Shop Honey Bronzer, but I otherwise tend to steer clear of bronzers. After Googling “how to apply bronzer” a few times, I took the plunge and tried the Vichy Teint Idéal Bronzer* ($36). I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it’s completely free of shimmer and doesn’t lean too orange on my pale winter skin despite being a universal shade. I still skip the bronzer 99% of the time, but I think it will be getting as much love as my Honey Bronzer during the warmer months, when I want to hide the fact that I haven’t seen in a beach in years.

Vichy Teint Idéal highlighter review

I kept the very best for last…this is the highlighter that got me obsessed with the trend. The Vichy Teint Idéal highlighter* ($27) is not just any highlighter, it’s a roll-on highlighter. It’s easy to throw in your bag, it blends like a charm with just a dab of your finger, and it glows. The shade is neutral but catches the light really nicely, and it wears well both under and over makeup. The roll-on bead is also the perfect size to highlight the arch of the brow and the cupid’s bow. #truelove

I’m hoping to see a wider shade selection in the near future, but in the meantime I highly recommend the fluid foundation (if you can find your shade) and the roll-on highlighter. I hear the brand also launched a Teint Idéal roll-on concealer, which I’m going to need to track down and test as soon as possible!
