The Soap & Glory Smoothie Star Range Review
There are so many things I love about Britain — the BBC, rainy days, the architecture, Prêt À Manger, the “mind the gap” voice on the Tube, Primark — but the thing I missed the most when I moved back to Canada after two years in London was without a doubt Soap & Glory, the cheeky body care brand with the pretty pink packaging.
In one of my post years ago (have I really been doing this for 5 years?!), I wrote: “Soap & Glory is probably my favourite brand. Ever.” It’s still true! In my Cumberbatch-loving humble opinion, Soap & Glory is one of the best British export since BBC Sherlock!
I breathed a sigh of relief when they announced they were coming to Shoppers Drug Mart a few years ago because even though I’ve been lucky enough to visit London several times since moving back home and had no trouble getting my S&G fix, stuffing a suitcase with 10 bottles of shower gel is a risky business.
Soap & Glory makes some of the most delicious-smelling, affordable and effective body care products I’ve ever tried. Their Original Pink scent body care range is still a firm favourite of mine, almost ten years to the day after I fell in love with its clean, sweet scent, but Soap & Glory has since expanded to include skincare, fragrances, makeup, and several new good-enough-to-eat scents.
When the Soap & Glory Smoothie Star Breakfast Scrub* ($18) and the Soap & Glory Smoothie Star Body Buttercream* ($18) showed up on my doorstep, I honestly had a little cry because I felt like the luckiest girl in the world.
Soap & Glory Smoothie Star Breakfast Scrub Review
The Soap & Glory Smoothie Star Breakfast Scrub is literally brunch made into an amazing beauty product. It smells like delicious maple pancakes! What more could you possibly want from a scrub?
The award-winning Smoothie Star Breakfast Scrub is made with organic cupuaçu scrubs (a tropical tree related to cacao), oats, salt and sugar to exfoliate, and shea butter, glycerin and sweet almond oil to moisturize. It’s also formulated with bananas (another breakfast staple!), and almond & honey extracts, probably to add sweetness to the scent.
The texture is just the right balance of gooey and stiff, and it’s easy to work into the skin for a comfortable exfoliation. The scrubbing particles aren’t so harsh that they hurt or irritate, but they’re still heavy-duty enough to exfoliate and soften. The scrub, combined with a thick layer of the Smoothie Star Body Buttercream, has worked wonders on my gross flaky elbows.
The Smoothie Star Breakfast Scrub is an excellent product, and its sweet maple scent makes it a must-have in my fall bathtime routine. It’s as good as everyone’s favourite weekend meal!
Soap & Glory Smoothie Star Body Buttercream Review
The Soap & Glory Smoothie Star Body Buttercream is packed full of luxurious oils to soften and moisturise the skin, and it’s the perfect finishing touch to a pamper night. The scent is slightly fresher than the Breakfast Scrub fragrance, with strong notes of vanilla and hints of pistachio and almonds that give the body butter more depth than your typical cheap vanilla-scented products. Though the scent is strong, it’s quite sophisticated.
This is a thick body butter, but it’s not at all greasy. I often use it as a hand cream, and there’s no need to wait around for it to absorb. It sinks right in and leaves the skin feeling noticeably softer within seconds. I’m quite lazy when it comes to moisturising anything but my face, but this body butter is the exception. Not only does it smell absolutely divine, but it’s also a dream to use.
If you want something a little lighter, there’s also a Soap & Glory Smoothie Star Body Milk.
TL;DR?
The Soap & Glory Smoothie Star range features two of my favourite drugstore products this year — the Smoothie Star Breakfast Scrub and the Smoothie Star Body Buttercream. Soap & Glory is known in the U.K. for their affordable quality products, and these are no exception. The Smoothie Star fragrance is sweet and delicious (though slightly different in each product) and the formulas are luxurious. The Breakfast Scrub and the Body Buttercream are also great stocking stuffers for the holiday season!
You’ll find Soap & Glory at your local Shoppers Drug Mart.
