Netflix & Pizza
My favourite part of Valentine’s Day? The discounted chocolate on the morning of the 15th, of course.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Valentine’s Day and I love any excuse to buy pink heart-shaped things and write cheesy love notes, but there’s something about the idea of a ‘typical’ Valentine’s Day date that doesn’t appeal to me at all. Maybe it’s the awkward gifts of teddy bears and dainty chocolates — I like my chocolate family-sized, thank you very much —, or maybe it’s the fact that you can’t find a restaurant that’s not crammed full of couples enjoying a bottle of wine and an overpriced ‘aphrodisiac’ set menu meal… I mean, is there anything worse than a set menu? You know that awkward scene in Sex & the City where Carrie and Miranda have a Galentine’s dinner date? It’s literally my worst nightmare, except that I wouldn’t mind drowning in pink balloons.
Nick and I will be celebrating Valentine’s Day the way we spend pretty much 90% of our time together — at home, in our pyjamas, with pizza and a couple of episodes of Bones.
Heaven. I think we’ve mastered the art of the Valentine’s Day night in.
Valentine’s Day Date Picks from Avon
I’ve been saving my Avon Celebrate Love candle* ($11.99) for tomorrow to make the living room a little more cozy than usual. We both love sweet scented candles, and this one is sure to be a big hit in our home with its notes of citrus, musk, rose petals and juicy berries.
To prepare for a little evening smooch session, I’ll be swapping my go-to Glossier Balm Dotcom for the Avon Just Kiss Me lip balm* ($10). I have the shade Pink, which gives the lips a nice rosy wash of colour and decent hydration — it’s not kiss-proof though, so be warned! The cute packaging is a big part of why I love it so much. It was made for cute kissy Instagram Stories.
There you have it, the perfect Valentine’s Day night in! I might even change into my fuzzy heart sweater from H&M when I get home from work to make the night that little bit more special. No matter how you decide to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year (or not, which is great too tbh), remember that chocolate will be on sale the next day!
