Makeup for Lazy Days

All through June, I was in a serious beauty rut. I wore my hair up in a messy bun for a whole month…mostly because I was too lazy to brush out the knots. I ran out of my one good moisturiser, and I still haven’t purchased a replacement. I won’t even get into the nails situation. Ugh. And finally, I wore the exact same makeup look every single day. That is, every single day I could be bothered to put makeup on at all. It’s not that I’m usually adventurous when it comes to makeup, but I do try to spread the love around my stash a little. Anyway. I don’t have favourites this month, but I thought I’d show what you need to achieve the look I gravitate towards when I’m a little uninspired.

The key here is flawless skin and big eyes. It really is all you need to look presentable, in my opinion. This look is quick, absolutely foolproof, and just perfect to make me look awake enough to go to work (or alternatively, sit in Starbucks scrolling through Instagram for hours).

A little bit of foundation goes a long way in making me look human. I’ve talked about my love for the Max Factor Face Finity All Day Flawless 3 in 1 Foundation before. It’s brilliant. It’s advertised as a primer, concealer and foundation with SPF 20 all in one. If I could wear one foundation for the rest of my life, I’d pick this one…maybe. It lasts all day and makes my skin perfectly smooth. I still need a concealer on bad skin days to cover imperfections though, and I always go for the Collection Lasting Perfection concealer. I wouldn’t say it’s the best concealer in the world as I find it too thick for the under eye area, but for the price it’s incredible, and it works a treat when it comes to covering redness and spots.

On days where I want to keep my makeup simple, I really don’t want to pile on the blush. I’ve got quite a round face though, so blush is essential to add some structure. No one likes a moon face. The Physicians Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting blush in Rose is great if you’re looking a little tired, and with a light hand, it looks natural on my skintone. I like to keep things fairly minimal, but you could easily pile it on if you wanted a real flush, it’s easily buildable. Next, I set my base with the NARS Light Reflecting Setting Powder, for extra flawlessness. It blurs imperfection and reflects light…it’s hard to describe, but the result is very flattering and not powdery at all.

Eyeshadow is completely optional for me, but a quick wash of neutral shadow over the lid works well to define the eye without any fuss. I don’t like fuss, ever, so it’s pretty much all I ever do anyway. Something like the MUA Heaven & Earth palette is brilliant because it gives you lots of neutral options. I’m not going to lie though, when I can’t be bothered to do my makeup in the first place, there is absolutely no way I’m even going to consider putting on eyeshadow. But if it’s your thing, it’s good to keep it simple once in a while.

I’ve been opting for bare lips this month with the Nuxe RĂªve de Miel lip balm, although a tinted lip balm would work just as well. Even though it has a rather thick consistency, it feels really light and moisturising on the lips. And finally to finish the look, a good mascara is essential. I love the L’Oreal Miss Manga mascara. It delivers incredible volume and the formula is just right – not too dry, not too wet. Nothing is worst than trying to apply a wet mascara when you don’t have the time or energy to make it work. I always apply mascara to the bottom lashes as well, as it really helps widen the eyes. I truly believe that if your skin is flawless and your eyes look big enough, no one will notice that you haven’t put as much time and effort as usual into your makeup.

So there you have it! The super quick and easy makeup look I’ve perfected over many days of extreme laziness. It’s my go-to look because I know everything works for me and I’m certain that nothing will go wrong during application (ie -incredibly awkward blush situation). Having worn this for a whole uninspiring month, I’m extremely bored with it now, but it’s good to have a tried and tested routine to fall back on.
