Celebrating National Lipstick Day with MAC Night Mint
I woke up bright and early this morning and made my way to the nearest MAC Cosmetics store armed with a friend and a large cup of coffee to celebrate National Lipstick Day and pick up a free MAC lipstick.
If anything can get me out of bed before lunch on a weekend, it’s the promise of free makeup and, as I’m sure you know, MAC had a great promo today where they gave away completely free full-sized tubes of lipstick. Thankfully, there was a lot of gossip to catch up on and the line wasn’t too long, so I was inside the store swatching away before I even knew it.
The real challenge was not actually waking up or lining up, it was picking a colour. I have more wearable lipsticks than I know what to do with, so I’m always more drawn to bright and unusual shades. The MAC location I visited had a great selection of bright and colourful shades, as well as a few more typical options like dusty pinks, browns and deep purples. Most shades were from the matte Colour Rocker collection, but I spotted at least one lustre finish lipstick in the bunch.
After eyeing up Deep With Envy (a forest green) and Indigo-Go (a cornflower blue), I ended up going for the MAC Night Mint lipstick, a shade that MAC describes as a “light army green”, but that appears more grey than green to my clearly untrained and undiscerning eye.
Night Mint is my second MAC lipstick ever. My first MAC lipstick was the MAC Viva Glam Nicki, that horrible neon pink shade everyone was wearing back in 2012. Needless to say, it wasn’t the shade for me and is probably still in a box somewhere, barely swatched.
Night Mint is a beautiful shade, not especially wearable in my day to day life but it still brings me a lot of joy. The formula is very creamy for a matte lipstick, and it glides on easily. It’s surprisingly opaque, and it wears decently well, so I would absolutely consider picking up a few more wearable shades if I didn’t already own all the lipsticks.
Happy National Lipstick Day! I hope you had a chance swatch to your heart’s content. If you went to MAC this morning, let me know which shade you picked up in the comments.
