If there’s one thing I love about what I do, it’s the chance to try products I wouldn’t necessarily be drawn to if I walked past the brand’s display in a store. That often means the makeup basics — the concealers, the mascaras, the eyeliners. I always get distracted by bold lipsticks, bright blushes, and colourful eyeshadows. Mascaras and eyeliners? They’re just not as much fun to swatch…or spend money on.
The IT Cosmetics Superhero mascara and eyeliner* are exactly the kind of products I would overlook while strolling through Sephora, but they turned out to be some of my favourite discoveries of the summer. They blend exceptional quality and ease of use, which is all someone with average makeup skills like me can ask for.
Proof: I finally (!!!) mastered the eyeliner flick.
IT Cosmetics Superhero Mascara Review ($32)
The truth is that I wouldn’t normally spend $32 on a mascara when I can pick one up for less than $10, but…this one might be worth it?
First of all, the IT Cosmetics Superhero mascara* is actually volumizing, lengthening and long-lasting, just as it claims to be. It’s rare to find a beauty product that matches up to a brand’s claims these days! It’s not waterproof or hard to remove, but it also doesn’t start flaking after a few hours. Even on the hottest, sweatiest day, it’s a dream to wear. I’ve been walking to work and back each day in the heat, and not a raccoon eye in sight! That alone makes the $32 investment worth it.
The formula is quite wet and messy to begin with, but the consistency gets better after a couple of weeks of daily use. I find that I still have a lot of clean up to do after application, but I’m also not very patient or precise when it comes to doing my makeup. The brush is pretty average, but it works well with the product.
You can see in the swatches that the IT Cosmetics Superhero mascara gives a really nice lift to the lashes (I don’t curl mine, ever) and that the jet black colour from the IT Cosmetics’ Super Black pigments really define the eyes and make them pop. It’s extremely buildable, without caking the lashes in clumps, and it separates them nicely. The formula is also enriched with collagen, peptides, and biotin to condition the lashes, though I haven’t seen any difference in the strength or length of my bare lashes since I started using it.
This is a mascara I would absolutely buy again. I love how long and thick my lashes appear when I use it. I love that it doesn’t clump my lashes together and weight them down with product, no matter how many coats I apply. I also love the simple, effective brush. At $32 a pop, the IT Cosmetics Superhero mascara is a bit of an investment for most people — myself included. If you’re looking to pick up something from the drugstore instead, I would suggest the Essence Volume Stylist 18hr Curl & Hold Mascara, a.k.a. the best mascara $5.99 can buy.
IT Cosmetics Superhero Eyeliner Review ($32)
I spoiled this story in the title, but…I’ve finally mastered the eyeliner flick, and it’s all thanks to the super precise tip of the IT Cosmetics Superhero eyeliner*! I’m not going to lie, I spent weeks practicing for hours at a time while listening to podcasts. I watched countless YouTube videos. I obsessively googled celebrities with my eye shape. I realized that my eye shape was not actually what I thought it was. I googled some more. My eyes were raw from all the Bioderma I used to scrub off this eyeliner, which just won’t budge btw. But it was all worth it, because I finally did it!
Though the tip looks like just any old felt-tip liner, it’s actually a tightly-packed brush that won’t fray or bleed. The IT Cosmetics’ Heavenly Skin hair tip definitely feels like a felt-tip, but I found it more precise than any other liner I’ve ever used. It doesn’t drag or skip, and the point is fine enough to get a sharp, clean line. It goes on a little light and brownish at first, but it becomes completely opaque after lightly tracing over the line once or twice. Going over the line couldn’t be easier, thanks (once again!) to the super fine tip. There’s zero chance of messing up…well, almost.
The Superhero eyeliner is enriched with peptides, collagen, biotin, keratin and kaolin clay, and the finish is a deep black matte that doesn’t require too much going over. Yes, I’m in love.
Again, it’s a bit of an investment. If you wear eyeliner daily, I would absolutely recommend picking the IT Cosmetics Superhero eyeliner. If not, you can probably make do with something a little more affordable. If you’re awful at eyeliner like me and not one of those people who can make any product in the world look amazing on Instagram…TRY IT! It will change your life and make you wonder if maybe, just maybe, you should become a makeup artist.
IT Cosmetics does it again! The Superhero mascara and eyeliner are easy to use, long-lasting, and definitely worth the investment if you can afford it. As for the packaging, both the mascara and the eyeliner are packaged in a sleek black tube, with a nice curvy shape and a broad base that allows the products to stand up on a vanity. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go practice my winged eyeliner some more…
