Haul: the NYC Edition

I was lucky enough to go to New York City to celebrate my 25th birthday. I visited New York about six months ago, so this trip was more about shopping and relaxing than sightseeing. I still managed to visit a few museums and walk through Central Park, but most of my time was spent shopping around the hotel. I stayed at the Waldorf Astoria and somehow got a free room upgrade, which was a nice touch! It’s a nice hotel, but they definitely live off their reputation and history. I was far from impressed with the room, especially considering the price. I’m definitely glad that I got to experience the Waldorf Astoria, but I wouldn’t stay there again as there are better deals to be had in other luxury hotels!

I had some birthday money to spend, so I decided to splurge on my first ever higher-end makeup products! I’m a huge fan of drugstore makeup, but it was nice to treat myself a little. Sephora is a lot cheaper in the US, so I decided to start there and pick up a Tarte blush. Natural Beauty has been at the top of my wishlist for a long time (ever since I read that it was Leighton Meester’s favourite) so I’m really excited to own it. I also picked up a Nars Light Reflecting Setting Powder, thanks to the lovely Cassie who reviewed it on her blog. I haven’t tried it yet, but it looks beautiful. I was somewhat disappointed when I got home, opened the box…and saw a massive, disgusting fingerprint in the mirror. Oh well. The powder itself is intact, and I’m still really really happy I bought it.

I also picked up a few Wet’n’Wild products from the drugstore. I went for a blush in Heather Silk, Idol Eyes Creme Shadow pencil in Pixie, a lipstick in Don’t Blink Pink and the Megalast nail polish in the shade On a Trip.

I had to get the Stila palette I’ve been drooling over for months…I present you In The Light! I can’t wait to use it, but it looks so pretty that I can’t bring myself to do it! I’ve only paid $39 for it in the US, which is a lot more reasonable than $50 in Canada! Especially considering that our dollar is stronger at the moment! BARGAIN!

There’s a gigantic Forever 21 in Times Square, where I picked up this beautiful bracelet and an oversized single stud necklace for $1.50 each.

Also from Forever 21, I got this cute little tea dress with a sheer back for $25. From H&M, I got a turquoise belt with silver hardware for about $6, and a pink metallic skirt from the sales section for $7. A great buy considering that I tried it on a while ago and decided that I didn’t want to spend $30 on a metallic skirt!

This dress is probably my favourite purchase from the whole trip! It’s an H&M floral print dress, and it’s got the most gorgeous, flattering shape. Notice the sleeves. I love a dress with short sleeves! And it’s got pockets. I went to three different stores to find my size, and I’m glad I persevered…that’s a $35 well spent.

So that’s it for my first haul post…I was also looking for Real Techniques brushes but I couldn’t seem to locate them anywhere! Boo! I’m now on a semi-spending ban, but it was was worth it!
