Taking my makeup off at the end of the night is not something I look forward to. It feels amazing and it’s absolutely necessary, but it’s the last thing I want to do when I’m exhausted and just want to burrito myself into my duvet and go to sleep. No matter how organized I try to be, I always end up having to hunt down the cotton pads and micellar water or cleansing oil I somehow misplaced the night before.
One night, I came across the FaceOff Makeup Remover Cloth* while turning my room upside down trying to find something, anything, to remove my makeup.
I decided to give it a go, because why not? And it worked.
What is this sorcery?
WHAT IS IT?
FaceOff is an all-natural, reusable fiber cloth that promises to remove eye and face makeup using just warm water. That’s right. No oil, no micellar water, no face wash. Just a fiber cloth soak in warm water. As a result, it’s great for all skintypes, including sensitive and allergic skins. The cloth is made of a weave of thin microfibers that grab on to makeup, oil, dirt and impurities to leave the skin clean and exfoliated.
A cloth is $12.95 and lasts three to four months with daily use, making it a whole lot cheaper than my usual makeup removing routine. Not only is it more affordable, but it’s also chemical-free, soap-free, microbeads-free, and much more environmentally-friendly than throwing away countless cotton pads and makeup wipes every day.
THE REVIEW
I was extremely skeptical and thought the FaceOff cloth would do absolutely nothing, except maybe smear makeup all over my face, but it turned out to be something that I actually use on a fairly regular basis and love.
Using the FaceOff cloth really is as easy as soaking it in warm water and getting to work as you would with a face wipe or a cotton pad. It removes foundation, concealer, blush, bronzer, highlighter and most lip colours without any problem, but removing mascara does require a fair bit of rubbing. It’s not painful, but I did notice a couple of lashes clinging to the cloth afterward, which…you know…isn’t great, but I figured I may have shed them naturally and they fell off when I removed my mascara. I don’t wear waterproof mascara so I didn’t have a chance to test how well the cloth would work on a waterproof formula, but my go-to mascara is difficult to remove even with oil and the cloth works really well with it.
I’m really really impressed by how effective the FaceOff Makeup Remover Cloth is. The cloth is super soft and comfortable to use, but it also has a bit of grip, which gives it gentle exfoliating properties. I can remove all traces of makeup quickly easily with FaceOff, though it does sometimes require more rubbing than I would like, especially around the sensitive eye area. You can see in the picture below that the skin appears a little red.

However, the fact that I don’t need a ton of products to make it work, just a bit of warm water is a big plus. It makes up for the fact that it takes a little more work. It’s great for my sensitive and allergic skin, especially when it’s raw from the cold or from a reaction to a product…as long as I keep the rubbing to a minimum anyway.
WASHING THE CLOTH
Washing the FaceOff cloth is easy. After each use, I use a gentle, scent-free soap to wash the cloth and remove all traces of makeup, and I leave it out to dry completely. I’ve been using it for a couple of months on and off, and it’s still completely white and looks as good as new. You can also throw the cloth in the washing machine (without bleach or fabric softener) about once a week as well.
As long as you can wash the cloth and leave it to dry overnight, this is a great product to travel with as you can leave bulky bottles and liquids at home.
TL;DR?
FaceOff is a microfiber cloth that removes your makeup with just a little bit of warm water, making it perfect for sensitive and allergic skins, as well as the lucky ones who get to travel and need an easy-to-pack solution for all their makeup removing needs. It works really well, but removing mascara requires a fair bit of rubbing.
