I think we can all agree that New Year’s Eve is the worst night of the year to go out. Not only are the bars and clubs expensive and packed with drunk people, but going out on NYE also means that you’ll start a brand new shiny year very drunk, wearing uncomfortable shoes, and probably making terrible decisions that will ruin your newly-made resolutions before the year has even started.
The idea of spending the last few hours of 2016 lining up outside a club in the cold wearing the least weather-appropriate clothes I own and spending the first few hours of a brand new year roaming the streets until I manage to find an overpriced Uber ride home just seems…unappealing. This year, I plan on ringing in the New Year with a rom-com, a slice of pizza and an early night.
One thing I’ll miss about going out is getting dressed up in a fabulous and carefully planned New Year’s Eve outfit and doing my makeup all bold and sparkly. Even though I’ll be rocking the Christmas pyjama bottoms and old band t-shirt look when the clock strikes 12, I couldn’t resist doing a bit of NYE-themed online shopping (and picking up a couple of pieces in the process…oops!). And uhhm…I’m kinda obsessed with dusty pink, gold accents, metallic fabrics, and velvet at the moment. Like, really obsessed.
Dusty pink is feminine and romantic, the metallic accents add a touch of magic, and the velvet fabric is a bit edgy. I can’t image a better mix of colors and textures to bring 2016 to a close.
Unless it’s flannel with penguins on it. That’s definitely better.
A FEW OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS
Anything can happen on New Year’s Eve, so dressy but comfortable clothes are your best bet. Picking pieces with laid-back cuts but fun fabrics and accents means you’re ready for anything the night throws at you. The velvet dress from Topshop is a fun spin on the super comfortable skater dress, and I also love the pink metallic skirt and the cute velvet skirt from H&M that can be worn with a sexy sequined low-cut top on NYE and with a t-shirt the rest of the year.
The Steve Madden booties are literally my dream boots, with the ASOS pink metallic booties with a gold heel a close second, but if you’re planning to hit the dancefloor until sunrise, the Kate Spade x Keds rose gold glitter sneakers are definitely the way to go. And I can’t think of an occasion when I wouldn’t wear them.
