Little Treats For When You’re Feeling Blue

How To Treat Yourself On Blue Monday

Today is Blue Monday, and it’s officially the most depressing day of the year. On the plus side, it’s unseasonably warm out and we’re not buried in snow (did I just jinx it?), so it definitely could be much, much worse. Still, all the work I’ve been avoiding over Christmas is now catching up to me and I can only imagine I’m not alone trying to cram weeks worth of work into a couple of days. And I just ran out of coffee. Yep, this is shaping up to be a great day…

Here’s a list of things you can spend your time and money on to make it through today and the rest of January feeling just a little bit happier, and maybe even kind of sassy. Money doesn’t buy happiness, but it does buy coffee and a Netflix subscription.

And now…the list!

It doesn’t even have to be an expensive one. Buying a new lipstick always, always makes me feel just a tiny bit happier. Buy the bold, daring lipstick you know you’ll never wear, but that will make you inexplicably happy anyway.

For a quick after-work pick-me-up, you can get a 30-minute treatment for just $35 at the Clarins Open Spa. There are four skincare experiences to choose from – “Bye Dry Skin”, “Youth Express”, “Ready to Glow” or “SOS Detox”. I attended the opening of the spa, but unfortunately had to leave before I got to try it. I’m thinking of booking myself a “Ready to Glow” treatment as soon as I’ve managed to catch up with all the post-holiday work that’s waiting for me.

A really good cup of coffee always lifts my spirits. If you can’t locate an indie coffee shop with Insta-worthy floors and beautiful latte art, try the new Cascara latte from Starbucks. I had it for the first time yesterday, and it’s seriously all kinds of yummy.

Pair it with a warm bath and a good book or an at-home mani. Even better – find a candle that smells good enough to eat.

Netflix binges are time-consuming, but they’re also the cure to everything, from heartbreak to illnesses, and it can only make your day better. I started A Series of Unfortunate Events over the weekend, and it’s so good.

Stray strong, Blue Monday is almost over and we’re already halfway through January!
