You’re probably tired of hearing me bang on about this by now, but I wanted to properly introduce my new name and blog design as I’m so proud of how it turned out! A lot of time and tears went into making this blog a space that I’m (almost) completely happy with, after all. I’m by no means a design and HTML wizard, but it was really important for me to do everything myself, from the banner to the social media icons to the code tweaking. There are still some code things to fix that are way, way outside of my skill set, but overall I’m incredibly pleased with how things are looking around here at the moment.
A Certain Romance is the title of one of my favourite Arctic Monkeys songs, from their album Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not. My previous blog name was chosen under pressure, when I thought I’d dedicate my blog to book history. Things turned out differently, and for a long time I felt like the blog name and blog design were all wrong for me. At the end of June, I came very, very close to giving up on my blog completely. The only way I can describe it is that it just didn’t fit anymore. I felt pressured into sticking to one type of posts, even though I’ve always had lots of different interests IRL. I wasn’t happy. Things started to fall into place when I gave myself an opportunity to explore new avenues and to write about whatever I felt like. Big changes are coming up in my life next month, and it felt right to get a fresh start in my blogging life as well!
I probably should not have started messing around with a new blog design just as I’m preparing for an extremely stressful move and with only a month left to work on my MA thesis, but I was too excited to wait. Overall, things went smoothly, except for some Bloglovin’ issues. I feel really positive about my blogging now, and the next goal I’ve set for myself is to improve my photography skills! I’ve had my camera for so long, there’s really no excuse for me not to use it to the full extent of its complicated awesomeness.
I love my new shiny domain name, I really do. So fancy! But as I’ve changed the name of my blog, it made sense to update all of my social media and contact information…so here we go! You can now get in touch with me at my new email address – certainromanceblog (at) gmail (dot) com. If you’re looking for my Bloglovin’ page, you can find it right here! I also made pages for ACR on most social media. Obviously, I changed my Twitter and Instagram handles (sorry if I confused you!). You can like ACR’s page on Facebook (still working on learning how to manage a page!), follow me on Pinterest and take a peek at my Tumblr. We can also be friends on Google+, even though I still don’t understand how it works. What I know is that Google really wants you to use your real name and upload pictures of your face. They really do. Google, you creepy thing, leave me alone! Anyway, for more information, you can check out the “Contact” and “About” sections! There might not be much going on on some of these social media pages for a little while as there’s quite a lot of things going on behind the scenes for the next month, but Tumblr has already seen some action and I’m just getting started with the pinning! Oh, and you can now click on the photos featured on ACR to pin them…you know…if you really like something!
I feel like A Certain Romance now represents what I want my blog to be – cute with an edge. I would really appreciate it if you could update your contact lists and share the good news with anyone who will listen! Any HTML tips are welcome, and I’d love to know what you think if you haven’t already told me! Thank you so much for all the support and lovely comments on my previous post, I’m glad everyone liked the changes so far!
(And if you notice that things are looking a bit wonky, do let me know! I haven’t had the chance to test the new layout on all browsers.)
