Lancôme La Palette La Rose — Pastels for Spring

Lancôme La Palette La Rose Spring 2017 Review

You’ve probably seen that Lancôme rose highlighter pop up on your feed recently. You know the one. Just a few weeks ago, you couldn’t spend more than five minutes on Twitter without reading about La Rose À Poudrer, Lancôme’s gorgeous rose-shaped highlighter.

I was less excited about the highlighter than by the fact that the launch of the Absolutely Rôse Spring 2017 collection meant that spring was just around the corner tbh. Rose-shaped makeup doesn’t lie, and we love spring around here!

To celebrate the glorious return of cropped pants and thin jackets, I’m reviewing a little something from the rose-inspired Spring 2017 collection launch, the Lancôme La Palette La Rose. Welcome to pretty pastels paradise.

The French PhD student in me makes a sad face every time I have to type or think about the name of that palette because it’s clunky and doesn’t mean anything, but it can be forgiven because HEY IS THAT THE PINK PACKAGING OF MY DREAMS? Yes, yes, it is!

Lancôme La Palette La Rose Review & Swatches

The Lancôme La Palette La Rose* ($75) is a gorgeous eyeshadow and lip palette designed by makeup artist, Youtube star and all around queen Lisa Eldridge, who also happens to be Lancôme’s creative director. This palette has some of the most beautiful spring shades I have ever seen, and each shade is formulated especially to be layered and blended together to create a unique look that is perfectly tailored to your needs.

The pink and gold packaging is slim and elegant. Inside, there’s a large mirror and a good quality dual-ended eyeshadow and lip brush. This palette contains six dreamy pastel eyeshadows and three cream lip colours protected from powdery fallout by a sturdy silver lid.

For the Eyes

If you love romantic pastel eyeshadow looks, you need this Lancôme palette in your life. The shades in the La Palette La Rose are soft, quite pigmented and they blend well, though there’s something missing. These are all shimmer shades, and I would also have loved a darker matte shade thrown in there to add dimension.

The six shades are perfectly springy, with a good mix of neutral, wearable shades and unexpected fun additions. I love the first three shades the most: a pale milky pink, a darker mauve, and a soft lavender. Together, they create a subtle, if somewhat frosted, pastel look. The next three shades are a light mint green, a glittery silver and a dark grey. The darker shade is great to add a touch of drama to an otherwise pastel look or use as a liner, but I find the mint green shade a touch too sheer and the silver shade too chunky for my taste.

The most pigmented shade is definitely the second one, and it just happens to be right up my street. I can see myself reaching for the first three shades constantly over the next few months for a super easy shimmery pastel look. With a pop of primer, they last for ages, and as we know it’s not always the case with pastel shadows.

For the Lips

The lip colours can be worn alone or can be mixed and matched to create a custom ombré lip. The bright pink and the coral shades are both matte, though there’s a glossy balm that can be applied as a base to add a little shine. Both lipsticks are pigmented and swatch beautifully, but they tend to settle in dry patches and can end up looking patchy and uneven when applied on the lips.

As much as I love the idea of having eye and lip colours in the same palette and love the vibrant colour options, I don’t find myself reaching for the Lancôme La Palette La Rose to use the lipsticks at all. I do think it might do nicely in a omg-where-is-my-lipstick pinch though.

The Lancôme La Palette La Rose is absolutely gorgeous and I do a little happy dance every time I look at it, but I do think there are better eyeshadow palettes out there for the price, considering I’m really only in love with three of the six shadows.
